BACOLOD City – A 1-year-old baby girl died after she was allegedly ran over by a pick-up truck at Barangay 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last September 1.
Lieutenant Colonel D’Artagnan Katalbas Jr., city police chief, said the victim was standing on the road side with her parents when she was allegedly sideswiped and ran over by a pick-up truck driven by a 62-year-old government employee of the adjacent town of Calatrava.
Katalbas said the child’s mother was fixing the items they bought while the father was getting ready to ride their motorcycle when both of them weren’t able to notice the child slowly moving to the road.
Katalbas said the driver failed to notice the child while he was about to park his vehicle in front of a department store.
The victim succumbed to head injuries.
Katalbas said the driver already offered to provide assistance to the child’s family.
Katalbas said the victim’s parents have yet to decide on the filing of charges against the driver as they are still in a state of mourning.
The driver will be released from police custody if the parents fail to file a case within the 36-hour reglementary detention period, the city police chief said.
