KALIBO, Aklan – The island of Boracay generated a total of P42,339,627,796.80 tourism receipts from January to August 2019, data from the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office indicated.
Some P30.234 billion came from foreign and overseas Filipinos who visited the island in the first eight months of the year, while the domestic tourists contributed P12.105 billion.
Based on the report, the island was able to receive a total of 1,480,445 tourists from January to August of this year, which translated to P42 billion tourism receipts.
Foreign tourist arrivals were recorded at 753,148; while domestic tourists were 678,256; and the overseas Filipinos were 49,041.
Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas assured that establishments in Boracay Island are fully compliant with the agency’s regulations to provide quality service to local and foreign tourists.
In a press release, DOT-6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas said that only a few of the mandatory establishments have yet to secure accreditation.
As of August 31 of this year, 374 accommodation establishments were already accredited by the DOT, which accounted for 13,554 in total rooms. (PIA-Aklan)
