BACOLOD City – Around 571 pupils of JL Araneta Elementary School in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental completed their three-month lecture on Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) initiated by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) last September 30.
The DARE program is a classroom-based instruction being participated by pupils from Grades 4 to 6. It started last June 24 and culminated last Monday, a press release from Nocppo said.
Five trained DARE police officers handled the classes based on the DARE elementary curriculum.
This is one of the many DARE programs implemented nationwide, as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s drive to promote drug resistance among youth and students through education.
Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, Nocppo director, said he believes that the DARE program will be an effective method of reducing illicit drugs use among the youth, which are considered as one of the most vulnerable sectors against this menace.
Present during the activity were Randy Andales, schools district supervisor of District I-A of the Department of Education (DepEd), Police Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Acollador, Nocppo’s deputy provincial director for administration, Police Major Norberto Barniso, chief of Nocppo’s provincial community affairs section, and Police Lieutenant Judesses Catalogo, who is the guest of honor during the graduation rites.
