ILONGGOS will soon experience the magic and wonders of robotics as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-6 is set to launch its biggest science and technology event in Western Visayas – the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on Oct 21-25 at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City.
As one of its featured attractions, the Mini-Robotics Workshop and Competition will bring exhibitors from the Data Science and Technology Corporation (DSTC) to demonstrate to the high school student participants from Iloilo City some of robotics concepts and masterpieces through a workshop on the first and second day of the event and will get to compete on the third day.
This activity aims to hopefully encourage the youngsters to pursue science courses in the future.

Moreover, the celebration has become a platform for heralding S&T advocacy in the Western Visayas.
The weeklong celebration is part of Iloilo Innovation Expo 2019 which is a week-long event featuring various activities such as the Iloilo Innovation Summit, ILOILOvation Business Matching and Investment Forum, IFIT Job Fair and National ICT Summit, among others.
This year’s regional theme, “Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development” features the latest innovation in technologies, products, and research that can help achieve the goals of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In pursuing this year’s theme, several activities are lined up to showcase innovations and accomplishments in science and technology.
Aside from the Mini-Robotics Workshop and Competition, there will be other activities such as the YES! Youth Explorers of Science, iLounge, Innovation Challenge, nuLab Mobile Learning Facility Bus and many other S&T attractions.
The RSTW is the perfect venue for the science community and enthusiasts, particularly the technology developers and investors including the S&T service providers and clients, to interact, exchange ideas, and pursue potential opportunities in technology commercialization and linkages.
Last year, Mianay National High School from Sigma, Capiz grabbed the championship for the robotics competition, followed by the Capiz National High School and Ishmael B. Orillos national High School as the 1st and second runners up, respectively.(DOST-6/J. R. A. Gabiota)
