In a match where everybody expected Kaya FC-Iloilo to dominate at both ends of the pitch, the defending champs looked rusty and tired resulting in the game ending in a scoreless draw.
With critics and football fans disappointed with Kaya’s previous performance, the team has the chance to prove them wrong and bounce back as they face off again today, 4:00 p.m.
Mendiola’s defensive schemes and overall toughness seemed to bother Kaya, as they looked to put Jordan Mintah and Jovin Bedic in difficult situations during their offensive schemes.
Mendiola countered each Kaya possession with hard-nosed physical defense, allowing them for easy swipes and steals.
On the other hand, Kaya FC had numerous attempts to cash in a goal but just couldn’t convert.
Darryl Roberts, Mintah, and Bedic had solid attempts, including a break-away attempt for Mintah that was just saved.
Expect to see Kaya make the necessary adjustments to respond to Mendiola’s physical play.
