ROXAS City, Capiz – “EVALI, Mr. Chairman, might spread in the city.”
This was the warning of City Councilor Cesar Yap, as medical doctor by profession, in his privilege speech during their regular session on Oct 29, 2019.
EVALI stands for E-cigarette Vaping product use Associated Lung Injury, which recently broke out in the USA and claimed 33 lives on top of more or less 1,500 persons hospitalized.
The US Center for Diseases Control (CDC) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 Compendium have EVALI in their rosters of diseases this month.
Yap said cigarette smoking and vaping (aerosol-like vapor formed by E-cigarette gadget) have the almost same harmful effects.
CAPNEOLAGNIA, a sex fetish causing patients to be “turned on” by the sight of cigarette smoke, seems to be the only plus factor for vaping – enhanced sexual desire due to lavish vapor-smoke.
“But at the end of the day, you will suffer because of lack of sex stamina due to poor lung oxygenation,” Yap said.
The lungs stiffen, especially the small tubes, leading to poor oxygen entry which damages the whole body.
The damage is permanent as the lung is destroyed by inhalation of artificial butter popcorn flavoring from vapes, hence the POPCORN LUNG DISEASE or BRONCHIOLITIS OBLITERANS, which is a “life sentence” disease.
Yap pledged to resolve the problem by proposing a measure either amending the existing Smoke-Free Ordinance or ordaining a new one which zeroes in on EVALI and vaping problems.
He appealed to his colleagues in the medical profession to include the patient’s vaping habit history during consultation as requested by Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
Yap also said that Mayor Ronnie Dadivas manifested intensified smoke-free programs during the recent Roxas City Executive Legislative agenda meeting.
Roxas City garnered the Hall of Fame Red Orchid Anti-Smoking Award under the previous leadership of former mayor Angel Alan Celino.
