The implementation of the Barangay Civil Registration System (BCRS) boosted the influx of registrants as 95 beneficiaries 60 years old and over from Brgy. Balcon Maravilla availed of the free registration on November 13, 2019 conducted by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of Jordan with support from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras.
Senior Citizens need civil registry documents as primary requirement in processing social benefits. They were grateful to the LGUs’ move of reaching out unregistered citizens thru mobile registration services provided by the LCROs.
In October and November 2019, mobile registrations were conducted in the province of Guimaras – three in Nueva Valencia which benefited 101 individuals, two in Buenavista with 89 registrants, and eight in Jordan with 318 total registrants.
Two more barangays were reached on Nov 30, 2019 to complete 100 percent coverage of all barangays in Jordan Municipality.
“Individuals who opted not to register during the mobile registration activity may register at the Local Civil Registrar’s Office of their respective municipality, but shall pay the corresponding registration fee”, said Nelida B. Losare, Provincial Statistics Officer, PSA- Guimaras
“The mobile registration conducted by the LCROs addresses unregistered vital events due to the difficulties of residents from far-flung areas to reach the town proper given their topographical locations thereby aggravated by transportation expenses. With the efforts done by the LGUs and the PSA, there’s no reason for anyone to be left behind unregistered,” Losare added.
Losare also explained that in the implementation of the BCRS, barangay officials were the champion partners of LCROs and PSA.
Residents were more responsive as encouraged by their barangay officials thus the LCROs and the PSA extended the conduct of free mobile registration services even weekends and holidays just to cater the demand of the LGUs.
