Rudy Gobert hopes to repay the NBA after taking lightly the COVID-19 issue a few weeks ago.
Gobert, the first NBA player to be tested positive, has pledged a generous amount to NBA workers affected with the COVID-19 effect.
Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the NBA will be canceling all basketball operations for at least 30 days, meaning there will also be no work for NBA personnel.
Gobert, who was slapped with criticism after considering the virus as a joke, apologized to the NBA community and hopes to give back to the people by donating money to those affected by the virus.
“I was careless,” he said. “I hope my story serves as a warning and causes everyone to take this seriously,” said Gobert.
Despite the comments the French superstar made, the NBA did not fine Gobert and instead, expressed how disappointed they are with the big man’s actions.
“These donations are a small token that reflect my appreciation and support for all those impacted and are the first of many steps I will take to try and make a positive difference, while continuing to learn more about COVID-19 and educate others,” Gobert added.
