BACOLOD City – A village watchman was injured after he was allegedly mauled by three men who were reportedly drunk at Barangay Sicaba, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Joey Gastar, 44, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said Gastar and his colleagues were roving the village to check curfew violators when he reprimanded a group of persons who were drinking liquor around 11:50 p.m.
“Aside from violating the curfew, they were not observing social distancing and they were very loud,” Mansueto said.
Gastar talked to them but the suspects identified as Joey Ponteras, 25; his brother Art Ponteras, 21; and Rodched Bilbar, 28 allegedly attacked him.
Mansueto said they were pacified but only Joey and Bilbar were brought to the police station while Art remains at large.
He said that the three suspects will be charged for direct assault.
The province is under Enhanced Community Quarantine and curfew hours is being implemented to ensure strict home quarantine among the people here to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
