BACOLOD City – Two persons died in a road collision at Barangay Dancalan, Ilog, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Killed were truck driver Michael Castillo, and his helper Nico Along, 18, both residents of Hinoba-an town.
Police Major John Ganzon, town police chief, said Castillo was driving a truck loaded with boxes of fish to Kabankalan City from Hinoba-an town, when the rear right wheel of the vehicle burst.
The truck swerved to the opposite lane, hitting the hauler driven by Jesmilo Godinez, 48, of Ilog town, on its way to Cauayan town.
Ganzon said Castillo lost control over the vehicle due to a mechanical malfunction.
He said Castillo and Along died on the spot. It took 30 minutes for the rescuers to retrieve their bodies after they got stuck inside the vehicle due to the strong impact.
Ganzon said Godinez was unharmed. He was temporary placed under police custody for investigation and will be released after the 18-hour reglementary detention.
