As one of the towns in the province of Iloilo that remains COVID-19 free, Concepcion attributes the zero case to its all-out campaign and the help of its partners.
Given the limited resources of the municipality, Concepcion Mayor Raul Banias said that they are “still fighting and standing firm” because of the support they have received during the fight (against COVID-19).
Banias recognized the entities and individuals who aided the municipal pandemic protection and relief program. Among these is power firm Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC).
As early as February, PCPC turned over thermal scanners and protective suits, and followed these up later with donations of 10,000 surgical masks and 5,500 pairs of surgical gloves.
At the peak of the pandemic in April, PCPC started an 8-week food assistance for frontliners and the 25 barangay kitchens feeding senior citizens.
“This support is what sustained us (Concepcion) in our vigorous effort to thwart and delay the entry of COVID-19 in our town, and so far we are successful with zero positive case,” Dr. Banias said.
The food assistance consists of a weekly ration of 36 sacks of rice and 200 kilograms of meat.
PCPC’s initiative is in partnership with the Joy-Nostalg Group’s Contravene Campaign. PCPC is the owner of the 135-Megawatt power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo.
“While we will continue to provide reliable and sufficient power, upholding everyone’s safety and well-being, including our host communities in Iloilo, will always be our priority,” PCPC Corporate Affairs Head Noel Dorego said.
