This is the first time PBA Board Chairman Ricky Vargas spoke about the issue involving coach Tab Baldwin and his controversial comments.
A week after TNT Katropa released coach Baldwin as part of their coaching staff, the TNT governor expressed his thoughts regarding coach Baldwin’s manner of apology.
“Ang impact sa akin nung comment niya na taken out of context, after the apology he made, was a little bit insincere,” Vargas said.
Vargas also emphasized that Baldwin constructed his apology by putting the blame on others and not being sorry himself.
“Because it was sort of saying, ‘I apologize, but I was taken out of context,’ so, it tended to push it to blaming others. And the consequence of that statement, na taken out of context, became more divisive. It became more divisive,” added Vargas.
Vargas did admit that the current Gilas Pilipinas program director personally apologized to him, which he accepted.
A few weeks ago, the PBA decided to penalize coach Baldwin with a 75,000-peso fine and a three-game suspension for comments “detrimental to the league.”
