BACOLOD City – Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson issued a memorandum directing doctors and medical staff working for the province to refrain from “moonlighting” to avoid cross contamination.
This after five bikers, including a health worker, from Talisay City tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The five were infected through one of their companions, a nurse who got the virus after assisting a Locally Stranded Individual who underwent dialysis procedure in a private hospital here.
The LSI tested positive for COVID-19.
The nurse, aside from infecting his biker friends, also infected his wife who is a doctor, Diaz said.
“We cannot afford to lose our health workers, we have to protect them,” Diaz said.
He further said the governor advised the provincial government’s doctors to exercise prudence and care for both their co-workers and patients
Diaz also said the infection of five bikers from Talisay City in Negros Occidental could have been caused by their multiple stops and failure to follow social distancing.
He said one of the individuals who tested positive has a sibling who works at the provincial government’s budget office.
Following the release of the result, Diaz said the budget office worker has been isolated and underwent decontamination.
Diaz further said another patient also has a cousin working at the Management Information System of the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, which also prompted the provincial government to isolate the three other employees of the office.
Diaz said the three underwent RT-PCR testing and with all having negative results for the virus.
“It really gave us a scare, just imagine if the patients and doctors in the hospital also become infected, the chance of spreading is too big,” Diaz said.
Diaz also said another individual, whose test results have yet to be released, voluntarily submitted to go on isolation at a quarantine facility.
He further said all bikers they tested are currently at the quarantine center in EB Magalona.
