It has been months since the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) promised national athletes and coaches that their delayed allowances will be addressed quickly.
But until now, the commission has yet to deliver the assurance, prompting PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez to take matters into his own hands.
Fernandez said that he already called up the attention of the whole PSC body and those involved in the payroll and accounting sector for quick action.
The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the release of allowances for athletes and coaches as PSC re-allocated some of its funds in fighting the virus.
Another reason for the delay is that an employee of Land Bank, which releases the allowances, tested positive for COVID-19.
“Third week of July, inaayos na ‘yan. Had to redo payroll computations and coordination with Land Bank on payroll system but all of a sudden, nag-lockdown sila for two weeks at may nag-positive na employee nila,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said he is hoping that the allowances will be released soon.
