A portion of the road at Barangay Teniente Benito in Tubungan, Iloilo collapsed after a landslide early morning of Aug. 9, 2020.
No one was hurt after several meters of road connecting the town of Tubungan and Leon gave up following a heavy downpour from Saturday evening until Sunday.
Police Lieutenant Jose Rommel Samson, Tubungan police chief, said residents from barangays Borong, Talento, Isauan and a portion of Mayang use the road in going to Leon town.
Since the road is impassable to vehicles, affected residents used an alternate route from Barangay Mayang to Barangay Ayubo, Leon.
Samson said construction works were about to be implemented in the area because some portions of the road were already damaged.
“The plan was to start construction in March but due to the pandemic, it got delayed. The contractor was about to start the road works when the incident happened,” he said
Meanwhile, two houses were partially destroyed in Barangay Bacan due to the landslide.
No casualty was recorded when soil eroded on the house of Mario Talabon and Mario Tanque.
Samson said none of the residents were evacuated after the incident.
