The COVID-19 pandemic continues to hurt the world of sports.
After 18 years of creating world-class talents and champions, the Asuncion Badminton Center is formally bidding goodbye and will go down as one of the premier sports centers in the Philippines.
In its official Facebook page, the prized sports center announced that it will be closing its doors to all shuttlers and is thankful for having the opportunity to impart knowledge to their past and current students.
“With the ‘new normal’ rules on quarantine and social distancing and the prohibition of indoor gatherings, the sport has been completely inactive for the past few months. And the situation will likely not improve for many months or even years until the pandemic eventually goes under control,” its Facebook post wrote.
Established by coach Nestor Asuncion, the top-tier badminton center produced multiple champions including his children Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion, Bianca Carlos, Geva De Vera, and the championship teams of Ateneo.
However, the iconic badminton center said they are still hoping to bounce back stronger and is optimistic that once the pandemic will ease, they will continue to do what they love the most.
“While this pandemic has been a major challenge, this has not reduced our passion for the game. We view the next months as a temporary sabbatical leave from the sport, not a permanent retirement,” their Facebook post continued.
