The widening of a 1.2-kilometer access road along Bacolod Negros Occidental Economic Highway (BANOCEH), leading to Bacolod-Silay Airport Road in Silay City, Negros Occidental is currently ongoing, according to District Engineer Jaime SJ Javellana of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office.
Engr. Javellana said the Bacolod-Silay Airport Road (BSSAR) extension project is approximately 90 percent accomplished and is expected to be completed in September 2020 or even earlier.
“We are optimistic that we will be able to complete this priority project earlier than its expected completion schedule in spite of the erratic weather and onslaught of rainy season,” Engr. Javellana said.
The P45.94-million project involves the widening of roads from two lanes to four lanes with the width of 3 meters, providing ease of travel among motorists and commuters going to the airport and increasing the capacity traffic corridor.
“This road widening project will reduce travel time, benefiting motorists and travelers who are passing through BANOCEH going to the new Bacolod-Silay Airport,” he stressed.
Likewise, the road widening project will help in the faster delivery of services and transport of sugarcanes to mills, providing ease of travel among sugar producers, traders, rural population and the general public.
Meantime, Engr. Javellana said DPWH is continuously working in order to achieve its strategic Organizational Outcome: reduced travel time; improved road quality and safety; and lives and properties protected from natural disasters by providing the commuters and the general public it serves with relevant and timely road infrastructure projects.
