CHMSC joins Gawad Kalinga’s Feeding Event

The Carlos Hilado Memorial State College joined the Gawad Kalinga 10.10 Nationwide Hunger Warrirors Unite feeding event last October 10, 2020.

More than 200 children from Brgy. Zone-3 – Catabla, Talisay City were fed healthy and delicious meal (done 30-50 at a time as part of health protocol).

“It is an honor and privilege for CHMSC to be part of the 10.10 Nationwide Feeding “Hunger Warriors Unite” initiated by Gawad Kalinga to raise awareness of the high hunger rate in the country amid the pandemic. It is an awakening call that we should do something about the growing poverty especially within our midst,” Mary Grace Nacionales, Director for Extension and Community Services (ECS) said.

“Let this be a driving force for our institution to continue and strengthen our extension services to empower our community partners to find ways to earn and feed their families even in this time of pandemic. Let not the threat of COVID-19 put us into inaction. Let us conquer our fears and be a man or woman for others,” she added.

The CHMSCyanihan team was composed of Director for Extension and Community Services Mary Grace Nacionales, Director for Alumni Affairs Ana Mary Ann Pancho, Director for External Affairs Rhoderick Samonte and staff Rossini Javier, BPEd 3A students Imee Loren Abonales, Allen Diojoy, Kristina Ortiz, Maynard Ostan, and Lorenzo Ramos who led a fun zumba session for the children, student volunteer Rommel Flaviano, canteen personnel Maricel Bolivar and Edna Fausto, and drivers Reynaldo De Los Reyes and Henry Ortega.

The GK 10.10. feeding event was a simultaneous nationwide endeavor, with almost 500 participating communities and barangays expected to feed the hungry children in their area.

“I am really thankful and happy for the opportunity because the area that was chosen was one of the beneficiaries of the extension program of the college and community immersion area particularly of the College of Education. Indeed, it was another great experience to help the needy,” Anna Mary Ann Pancho, Director for Alumni Affairs and ECS coordinator of the College of Education said.

The event and participation were also made possible through the generous donations from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners.
