Even a seven-month lay-off can’t slow down one of the deadliest scorers in the PBA.
Matthew Wright shot the lights out against the Meralco Bolts and helped the Phoenix Super LPG grab their first PBA bubble win, 92-63.
The former Gilas Pilipinas sniper unloaded 36 huge points shooting 54 percent from the field while also racking up six assists, four rebounds, and one steal.
Wright never let the ailing Meralco take control of the game or even seize a little momentum after only turning the ball over once and took up playmaking duties the way head coach Topex Robinson wanted it.
The Super LPG squad had their largest lead at 29, 92-63 and looked sharp in the Clark, Pampanga bubble with their crisp passing and on-point pick-and-roll action that proved to be too much for the Bolts.
Wright involved Jason Perkins in numerous pick-and-rolls that put the Bolts in early foul trouble.
The lefty big man of Phoenix also posted a solid PBA bubble debut, scoring 17 points, grabbing nine rebounds, while dishing out five assists.
Meanwhile, in the last game of the doubleheader, Mac Belo and Roi Sumang led the young Blackwater Elite team to a win against the Northport Batang Pier, 96-89.
