For the first time in the history of Philippine tennis, a Filipina notched a place in the top three of the world rankings.
After a solid campaign during the 2020 French Open, teen tennis sensation Alex Eala climbed in the world rankings from number four to world no. 2.
The 15-year-old tennis ace achieved such feat after locking in a semifinals spot in the 2020 Roland Garros but unfortunately bowed down to Elsa Jacquemot who eventually became the current world no.1.
Eala surpassed former world no. 1 Victoria Kasintseva of Andorra and former world no. 2 and 3 Dianne Parry of France and Daria Snigur of Ukraine, respectively.
In her French Open stint alone, from her elimination round to the semifinals appearance, Eala was able to rack up a total of 430 points.
From her 1718.75 total points in her world no. 4 score, Eala was able to go high as much as 2148.75 to earn her spot in the world rankings.
Eala will only need 112.6 points to take over the world no. 1 spot from Jacquemot and will need to be at her A-game in the next tournaments she will join.
