BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District in Southern Visayas collected 546 sacks of garbage and planted 7,300 mangrove propagules during the underwater clean-up, coastal clean-up, and mangrove planting activities in Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor last week.
It was led by Captain Eduardo De Luna Jr., PCG District Southern Visayas commander, in line with the 119th founding anniversary of the PCG which demonstrated the Coast Guard’s sincere commitment in protecting and preserving the country’s marine environment.
Considering the pandemic that the country is confronting, the PCG ensured that health protocols, practices, and procedures were observed to prevent the spread of the virus while conducting the noble cause.
Various local maritime stakeholders, local government units, non-government environmental organizations and other uniformed services also participated in the activity making it more meaningful and successful.
The program also encouraged the coastal community and fishermen to give importance on cleaning their coastline.
