The Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said safety measures it has implemented may have been effective in fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among its ranks.

While there are still PRO-6 personnel who got infected, the number is now negligible.

Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said that they only recorded four new cases.

Two of these new cases are personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) and one each from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) and a non-uniformed personnel (NUP).

The new cases brought to 122 the total number of PRO-6 personnel who contracted the virus as of Oct 19, 2020.

Only 25 cases are deemed cases, with 96 recoveries, and one fatality.

The lone fatality was an ICPO personnel who got infected and eventually died while on training in Laguna province.

Thirteen of these active cases are NOPPO personnel, five from the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU), four from IPPO, two NUPs, and one from Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

For now, there are no active cases among personnel of the PRO-6 headquarters, Aklan Police Provincial Office (AKPPO), Antique PPO, Capiz PPO, Guimaras PPO, Iloilo City PO, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion.

Given that the region’s police force has a strength of around 13,000, the infection rate is deemed low.

While the rate is at around 0.93 percent, Malong said they are strictly practicing the minimum health standard to ensure that no more personnel would add up to the number of Covid-19 positive personnel.
