Region 6’s COVID-19 tally passes 15k mark

The total number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases recorded in Western Visayas swelled to 15,042 after the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development reported 137 new cases as of Oct. 21, 2020.

The region’s COVID-19 tally to date includes 3,052 active cases, 11,634 recoveries, and 356 deaths.

102 new recoveries and zero new COVID-19 fatalities were also listed on Oct 21.

The top five areas with new COVID-19 cases are Iloilo City (59), Negros Occidental (30), Iloilo province (22), Bacolod City (13), and Capiz (11).

Bacolod City leads the whole total number of COVID-19 cases in the region to date with 4,646, followed by Negros Occidental with 3,986, Iloilo City with 3,614, Iloilo province with 1,716, Capiz with 711, Guimaras with 163, Aklan with 139, and Antique with 67.

As to the number of active COVID-19 cases, Negros Occidental still tops the list with 1,238, followed by Iloilo City with 790, Bacolod City with 507, Iloilo province with 368, Capiz with 118, Aklan with 15, Guimaras with 10, and Antique with 6.

Taking into account the symptoms, 76.08 percent of the active cases are asymptomatic, according to DOH-WV CHD’s data.

Those with mild symptoms take up to 17.43 percent, while 5.18 percent are severely infected.

Around 1.21 percent of active cases are still to have their symptoms verified.

As to recoveries, Bacolod City also has the most number of recovered cases with 4,021, followed by Iloilo City with 2,744, Negros Occidental with 2,679, Iloilo province with 1,296, Capiz with 565, Guimaras with 152, Aklan with 117, and Antique with 60.

The region’s mortality tally has not changed, the most number of COVID-19 fatalities as of Oct. 20 being from Bacolod City with a total of 118, followed by Iloilo City with 80, Negros Occidental with 69, Iloilo province with 52, Capiz with 28, Aklan with 7, and Guimaras and Antique with 1 each.
