A drunk man died of drowning after he fell off the sea following a mauling incident evening of October 29 at Roxas City, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as Jubeth “Bambi” Candelario, 24, a native of Barangay Calachuci, Milagros, Masbate but was residing at Barangay Libas, Roxas City.

Roxas City police investigators said the suspects were a certain Cabal from Masbate; and Marko Borres, 26, and Grey Cortel, 30, both fish vendors and residents of Barangay Libas.

Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Jomuad, Jr., Roxas City police chief, said their investigation showed Candelario’s death was not premeditated.

In fact, Candelario appeared to be the initial aggressor.

“He was drunk and from what we gathered, he used to bully people around when under the influence of liquor,” Jomuad said.

Candelario allegedly attacked Cabal while at a fishing boat.

Cabal lost balance and even fell into the sea. Candelario then left him.

But Borres and Cortel saw what happened.

“They’re not related to Cabal but they apparently got irked because of how high-handed Candelario was,” Jomuad said

The two suspects allegedly mauled Candelario until he also fell into the sea.

Borres and Cortel immediately fled after the incident.

Candelario was immediately scooped from the sea and rushed to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Cabal is at-large while Borres and Cortel were collared in a follow-up operation.
