May it be actual or virtual, the Gilas Pilipinas versus the Australian Boomers present the same scenario and result.
During the FIBA Esports Open II NBA 2K Finals, E-Gilas got swept, 2-0, in the best-of-three championship series against the E-Boomers.
Surprisingly, the E-Gilas got the better of the E-Boomers in the preliminary rounds, man-handling them in the last two games they played, 81-55, and 76-45.
In the championship round, the E-Boomers found the right adjustments and mitigated the Filipinos’ offense to take wins in games 1 and 2 of the finals.
During the first game, the E-Gilas mounted a valiant effort at a comeback but fell short against the surging Australian team, 62-54.
The second game was more of the same as the E-Boomers’ defense was just too much for E-Gilas to give them a 69-54 title-clinching victory.
“They’re a great team, which just makes it better. They smacked us a couple of times yesterday and tonight as well. They’re a really good team and we just powered through it,” said Australian team captain Squoogs.
