BACOLOD City – Two more local chief executives in Negros Occidental expressed support to transfer the provincial capitol from this city to Talisay City.
Himamaylan Mayor City Mayor Raymund Tongson told Daily Guardian here that moving the capitol makes sense as the seat of the provincial government will be within its jurisdiction.
Bacolod City, where the capitol is currently located, is an independent local government unit.
Tongson said another reason to move the capitol to Talisay City is the congestion in its current location.
Tongson also said that with the development of the road network from the southern to the northern part of the province, it will not be difficult to travel to Talisay which is part of northern Negros.
“Honestly, I see no problem and I think it would be better,” Tongson added.
Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo said she supports the move which is good for the province.
“It is the call of the governor and the Sanggunian Panlalawigan, I support the move,” Yulo added.
Earlier, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante said transferring the provincial capitol to Talisay City is a necessity.
“It is more of necessity because of the congestion in the area,” he said.
