ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Punong Barangay Ely Azarraga Sr. of Barangay Bago here was surprised after his village was declared champion in the “Upod Kita sa pagExcell Barangay Search for CURES” of the city government.

CURES is the acronym for “COVID-19 Unified Response and Effective Strategies”.

“I did not expect that we would win in the contest,” Azarraga said, adding that they merely accomplished the requirements and the documents needed in the competition.

The city government launched the barangay-level contest to encourage village councils to design and implement ways to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

Barangay Bago was recognized during the 4th Excellence in Local Governance Awarding Ceremony recently at Kapis Mansion Hotel in Brgy. Banica here.

Search for CURES in Barangays was launched by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas in the hopes of stopping the spread of the pandemic in the barangays.

According to Ronald Amigo, assistant department head of the Roxas City, the program is a joint effort of the Department of Health and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Rewards will be given to the barangays with good implementation of COVID-19 protocols such as the face mask/face shield ordinance, physical distancing, accommodation of locally stranded individuals (LSI’s) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROF), among others.
