BACOLOD City – A college graduate could no longer pursue his dream of becoming an engineer after he died in a road accident at Bangga Mt. Carmel, Circumferential Road, Barangay Alijis here Tuesday night.

Prince Joaquin Relatos, 22, of the said village, was supposed to take the engineering board exam before he met his tragic fate.

Staff Sergeant Jesar Nepocpan, traffic investigator of Police Station 7, said Relatos was riding a tricycle driven by 28-year-old Welmar De Asis when a still unidentified vehicle crashed the rear part of the tricycle.

Nepocpan said the impact caused the tricycle to move to the opposite lane and crashed into a prime mover truck loaded with sugarcane.

Relatos suffered head injuries resulting in his immediate death while De Asis was hurt and was taken to a hospital, Nepocpan said.

Nepocpan said truck driver Rene Codico, 45, of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was unharmed. He was placed in police custody and was released yesterday afternoon after the lapse of his 18-hour reglementary detention period.

He said they already have a lead on the vehicle which caused the whole accident, but they are still verifying its details.

He also said a settlement is being eyed by both parties.
