Capiz cites veggie prod’n tilt winners

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Capiz provincial government thru its Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) has awarded the winners of this year’s Vegetable Production Contest, Dec. 21, at the Capiz Villareal Stadium here.

The competition, conceived as a special livelihood project, is part of the province’s homegrown solution for making food to be always available to every Capiceño table thru the integration of vegetable production especially growing of indigenous crops to farming activities.

The contest winners with their prizes at the provincial level are Reynaldo Aldea from Pilar town, 1st place (P100,000); Ronilo Bael from Pontevedra town, 2nd place (P70,000); Persesol Badhay from Panitan town, 3rd place (P35,000); Eduard Venerable from  Jamindan town, 4th place (P20,000); and Alexander Sabolbora from Sapian town, 5th place (P10,000).

Eleven consolation winners also received P3,000 each.

“May pera sa agrikultura,” said provincial administrator Edwin Monares, adding that the farmers are the real heroes for without them even those who are financially well-off have also nothing to eat.

The project was in collaboration with the Roxas City Agriculture Services Office and 16 Offices of the Municipal Agriculturists who helped in initiating the contest at their level.

“We hope you sustain vegetable production as this contributes to your income and the province’s food security,” said Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz.

The project has P1.7-million budget for this year. (PIA)
