BACOLOD City – A joyride with friends resulted in the death of one of the three minors after they figured in an accident along Araneta Street in Barangay Tangub here Friday, January 1, 2021.
Police identified the fatality as Francis Batac, 14, of the said village, while police withheld the names of the two wounded victims aged 13 and 17.
Captain Jun Ray Batadlan, head of Police Station 8, said the accident happened when Batac was asked by his 17-year-old friend, along with their 13-year-old friend to go with him on a ride on New Year’s Day.
Batadlan said the elder teen drove his employer’s pick-up truck when the latter fell asleep after having a drinking session with him.
“Naglibot-libot sila kay New Year, pero nakainom kag wala driver’s license ang ga drive,” he added.
Batadlan said the three teenagers were on their way home when the vehicle crashed into the center island and turned turtle.
The vehicle was allegedly speeding, and the driver was reportedly drunk, he added.
Batadlan said it took a while for rescuers to extricate Batac after he got stuck in the vehicle. All three of them were brought to a hospital, where Batac was declared dead.
The two other minors sustained fractures and were still confined at a hospital here.
