BACOLOD City – Three more drowning incidents were reported in Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day, one of which claimed the life of a man.
In Himamaylan City, Junjun Solomon, 22, died after he drowned in a beach resort at Barangay Talaban.
Lieutenant Alfred Mansoy, deputy police chief of Himamaylan City Police Station, said Solomon’s family had an outing when the tragedy happened.
After having a drinking session with his family, Solomon went swimming alone and was found floating at the sea few minutes later.
He was rushed to Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital where he was declared dead.
Mansoy said another drowning incident was reported in Barangay Saraet. The victim was also having a family outing when it occurred, but he survived after he was rescued immediately.
Meanwhile, Commander Ludovico Librilla Jr., head of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, said that two persons were rescued after they were swept by strong current in Hinoba-an town.
Librilla said the two victims aged 28 and 12 from Bago City had a family vacation in the town when they decided to go swimming.
These individuals were spotted 150 meters away from the beach drifting in the water when they were rescued.
