The first-ever professional volleyball league in the Philippines is set to return to action on April 10, 2021.
Inactive for more than a year, the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) just announced its final plans and will be good to go after Holy Week.
“For 2021 we are confident that we will be able to bring games to the fans. The only positive thing that happened in 2020 was our decision to turn the PVL into a professional league. We’re hoping that we’ll make the game of volleyball more prominent and that being the case we’re hoping it will inspire more kids to take up the sport of volleyball,” said PVL president Ricky Palou.
It was November 9, 2019 when the PVL last held its match when the Creamline Cool Smashers looked to be at cruise control and notched their 20th straight victory with no losses.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic halted it all and scrapped all the remaining conferences slated for 2020.
“We are unhappy that we were not able to bring games to the fans… we apologize for that but really there was nothing we can do about it because the authorities did not allow us to have any games,” added Palou.
For the upcoming April 10 conference, the PVL will be holding a tournament bubble at Inspire Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
“We are really very happy that the GAB accepted us to become professional and of course with the teams’ approval,” PVL Commissioner Tony Liao said.
