Photo contest promoting wonders of energy in modern living launched

MORE Power is calling on all photo enthusiasts–professionals, amateurs, and students–residing in Iloilo City to join the photo competition to promote the significance of energy in modern living and convenience.

Dubbed the search for “MORE Power Image Photo 2021”, the competition is in collaboration with the Photographic Society of Iloilo and banners the theme “Bringing More to Life.”

“Energy drives the modern world and underpins every other issue. In fact, we cannot perform most of our daily tasks without it. And while we know that people do appreciate its value, we would like to see it in visual form, illustrating how exactly it powers our daily lives,” said Roel Castro, MORE Power president and chief operating officer.

The competition will include sub-categories to underscore the essential, but often overlooked role of photography in educational empowerment and environmental impact.

Prizes at stake include the following: P15,000 for Overall Best MORE Power Image 2021; PHP10,000 each for sub-category 1 (Empowering Education 2021), sub-category 2 (Power Impacts on the Environment 2021), sub-category 3 (Most Popular Photo 2021); and P1,000 each for 10 photo runners-up.

Aside from the main cash prize, Castro said the “Overall Best MORE Power Image 2021” will also be used as the cover image of the company coffee table book to be launched this year.

14 BEST

The over-all winner and the winners of the three sub-categories will be chosen from 14 photo entries deemed ‘best’ among all the entries; the remaining 10 will be declared as runners-up.

All 14 photos will be featured on the MORE Power website and its social media platforms to reach a passionate audience and raise the entrants’ profile as conscientious energy photographers.

The Working Committee will also post the 14 best photos at the MORE Power-Iloilo Page (@MOREpowerIloilo), and the photo with the most number of hearts will be declared the competition’s “Most Popular Photo 2021”.

Deadline for the generation of “heart votes” is on February 14, a date of significance for MORE since it was on February 14, 2019 when President Duterte signed into law Republic Act 11212 that gave MORE Power the franchise to distribute power in Iloilo City and the right to acquire the assets of PECO.
