ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Chances are remote for a political unification between Capiz 2nd district Rep. Fredenil H. Castro and Mambusao town Mayor Leodegario Jun Labao Jr. in the 2022 elections.

Political observers believe that Castro is determined to control the second district of Capiz, which he dominated for almost two decades, by fielding his wife, former congresswoman Inday Baby Jane Castro, to run for his post when his term ends next year.

Labao, on the other hand, is also bent on running for second district representative after completing his term of office.

Labao had been groomed earlier to run for governor of Capiz in 2019, but he backed out and gave way to Contreras.

Castro and Labao were allies before their rift because of politics.

Labao is presently allied with Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Contreras.

Meanwhile, Labao already announced his candidates for mayor in the different towns of the second district of Capiz.

They are incumbent Vice Mayor Roger Flores in Cuartero, Vice Mayor Stephen Alayon in Sigma, Mayor Roberto Palomar in Tapaz, Vice Mayor Biboy Benjamin in Dumarao, Vice Mayor Budong Firmalino in Dumalag, Sanggunian Bayan (SB) member Julius Orillos in Sapian, SB member Zenny Chapman in Ivisan, Vice Mayor Ildefonso Cusay in Jamindan and Engr. Boy Baruela in Dao.

Labao said that he has yet to name his successor in Mambusao, but talks are rife that former provincial board member and municipal administrator Jeffry Layo will be the chosen one.
