ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The growing number of suicide incidents in the province of Capiz is getting alarming.
This was the reaction of Just Lynn Panaligan, registered psychometrician of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), who called the public’s attention to the so-called social depression.
Panaligan said the lack of proper sleep results in depression, appetite loss, and sudden changes in behavior.
In a radio interview, Panaligan said people who post their failures on social media are prone to depression, thus it is important for them to be open to their families and friends to avoid suicidal thoughts.
Earlier, police reported six suicide cases were recorded in Capiz in January 2021.
Data from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) revealed that all victims were males, four of them were 40 years old and below while two were above 40 years old.
The city of Roxas recorded 3 cases, 1 in Sapian, 1 in President Roxas and 1 in Pilar.
Five of the victims died while admitted to the hospital.
In 2020, Capiz recorded 36 suicide cases.
The CPPO has continued its awareness campaign against committing suicide, saying it is not the answer to any problem.
