The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) headed by president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino shared that all Filipinos who are bound for the Tokyo Olympics will be receiving free COVID-19 vaccines to keep them safe during their remaining days of training and the event proper.
Tolentino confirmed that it is Mr. Enrique Razon, chairman of International Container Terminal Services Inc. and casino operator Bloomberry Resorts Corp. who will shoulder the vaccines.
“We would like to thank Mr. Enrique Razon for providing our Olympics-bound athletes with vaccines. Rest assured, our athletes would be protected from the virus as they escalate their training and preparation for Tokyo,” said Tolentino.
Razon will be bringing in 20 million doses of the US company developed vaccine Moderna which costs $26 each (1,250 pesos).
“I’m sure that with the generosity of Mr. Razon, especially in these difficult times, would further spur our athletes to focus on the Olympics without fear of getting infected,” Tolentino added.
Those who are already sure of receiving the Moderna vaccine are gymnast Carlos Yulo, pole vaulter EJ Obiena, and boxers Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno.
“The time is now. I believe that we are in the best position to win that Olympic gold, not one, but more,” closed Tolentino.
