Despite doing well on opening day at the 2021 Australian Open Women’s doubles, Filipina-Australian Lizette Cabrera and her partner Maddison Inglis couldn’t advance to round 3.
The duo was outplayed by doubles seed no.7 Japanese Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara, 5-7, 7-6, 6-0.
They struck a win in the first set thanks to precision baseline forehand strokes, 5-2.
However, the veteran Japanese pair took the game one level higher and equalized the score, 5-5.
The Australians were able to maintain their composure in the next two games to clinch the first set to their favor.
However, as the match went continued the Japanese duo was able to control the momentum of the game and scored more points than Cabrera and Inglis.
Aoyama and Ena eventually finished the match with a 6-0 score after an unstoppable rally.
