Fisherman nabbed for illegal gun

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 21-year-old fisherman was caught in an entrapment operation Tuesday noon by the elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-Capiz) at Sitio Nipa, Barangay Culasi here.

Emmanuel Fabon of Sitio Sakup of the said barangay was nabbed after handing over alleged unlicensed guns in exchange for PHP12,000.

Police Major Chris Artemius Devaras, CIDG chief, said it took several days of monitoring and surveillance before the operations was conducted.

Recovered from Fabon was a shotgun with eight live ammunitions, a 22-caliber revolver with three bullets, and fake bills used as marked money.

The suspect denied he owned the said firearms. He said he was asked by his uncle to bring the firearms to his client.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was caught after an unlicensed firearm and a grenade were recovered from him in a checkpoint Monday night at Barangay Tabuc, Pontevedra, Capiz.

Jay Vinite of Barangay Rizal was collared while police were conducting a checkpoint operation.

Police recovered from Vinite a .45-caliber pistol with 7 bullets and a hand grenade.

The police are preparing charges for violations of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Vinite is detained at the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station while Empabon is in the custody of CIDG-Capiz.
