ROXAS CITY, Capiz—The new Municipal Government Center of Tapaz is expected to boost the image of the once underdeveloped municipality in Capiz.

Tagged as the most beautiful municipal building in Western Visayas, the modern architecture 5-storey building is fully equipped with an elevator, chapel, in-door and outdoor gym, canteen and with lodging facilities for guests.

Mayor Roberto “Nonong” Palomar said the realization of the building will boost and uplift the dignity of the residents and the town’s economic development and local tourism industries.

The building was blessed and turned over to the local government on February 18, 2021. It was constructed through a PHP110-million loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines.

The mayor said that the status of Tapaz, a first-class municipality in Capiz, was very poor when he assumed office in 2016.

Despite the town’s huge Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share, infrastructure development, more particularly farm-to-market roads, were not given attention by previous local leaders.

The project was among the infrastructure development initiatives of the local government unit (LGU) that Palomar highlighted in his State of the Municipality Address last year.

The new town building was constructed on the same spot of the 50-year-old municipal hall which was condemned and demolished two years ago.
