The construction for the three-hectare Iloilo Tree Park Development Project in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro has already started, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The mayor said the tree park in Brgy. Lanit will interconnect other tree parks in the metro as part of the city’s greening projects.
“This is one of the areas that will interconnect our tree parks as part of our greening projects. We aim to educate our constituents on different plant species, and most especially, provide awareness to fight the effects of climate change,” he said in his Facebook page.
The three-hectare tree park is among the city’s green projects which aim to promote sustainability and eco-tourism in Iloilo City.
Among the green projects which will be prioritized this year include another tree park at Brgy. Boulevard in Molo district at the mouth of Iloilo-Batiano River and the first-ever Iloilo City Butterfly Garden will soon rise at the La Paz Plaza.
Currently, the city government has also been conducting massive mangrove plantations around the metro in cooperation with private and public sectors.
The mayor also plans to construct the Iloilo City Green Tunnel along Benigno Aquino Avenue St. in Mandurriao district which will be integrated in the existing bike lanes in the metro.
All the green projects will be integrated in the city-wide Iloilo City Tree Park Network which will include eco-parks, mangroves and wetlands developments.
The projects will be implemented in partnership with City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Treñas has previously said that he will prioritize green projects as he envisions a more sustainable and environment-friendly metropolis. (ERS)
