Police Regional Office 6 joined the nationwide kickoff ceremony of the 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration at Camp Delgado on March 1.
This year’s celebration is themed “We make change work for Women” Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!
During the activity, PRO-6 awarded Medalya ng Papuri to policewomen who have displayed significant accomplishments in their respective area of responsibilities.
The awardees were:
- Police Major Liza Nofuente, Women’s and Children Protection Desk chief of Iloilo Police Provincial Office, for showing dedicated service beyond the call of duty for facilitating numerous livelihood programs in relation to Babaye Bangon project during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Babaye Bangon project expounds and caters activities for women in the community especially those victims of violence.
- Police Senior Master Sergeant Rosario Olaveja, WCPD chief of Roxas City Police Station, who initiated a partnership with the City Government of Roxas which resulted in the building of “Puloy-an sang Pagpalangga” a Crisis Center that caters 242 VAWC victims since its operation. She also organized VAWC Desk Officers in 47 Barangays of Roxas City and successfully filed 62 cases of Violation of Women’s and Children Rights in Court.
- Police Staff Sergeant Angelie Orfelia of Tobias Fornier Municipal Police Station who helped rescue four persons from a capsized motorized banca last May 16, 2020.
- Police Staff Sergeant Emely Roldan of Malay Municipal Police Station for successfully filing 41 cases in court for violations of women’s and children’s right, 6 of which were already convicted.
Representative Julienne Baronda, Congresswoman, Lone District of Iloilo City was the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the event.
In her speech, Baronda congratulated all policewomen of PRO6 for juggling multiple roles of being public servants and mothers.
“I know how difficult it is to be a mother and at the same time being at the frontline ensuring peace and order to keep the community safe and peaceful,” Baronda said.
To make women shine during this event, an all-female battalion was detailed as parading elements in the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Rolando F Miranda, PRO-6 director, said he recognizes the role of women in the police organization.
“Our women are as capable as men, they can accomplish jobs and can be very productive.”
Miranda also thanked Congresswoman Baronda for gracing the event.
“You are an empowered woman who could inspire others,” Miranda said.
