A body that was already in the advanced state of decomposition was found Tuesday morning in Dumangas, Iloilo.
A resident who was gathering rice husks discovered the body in the middle of a sugarcane field in Barangay PD Montfort North, Dumangas.
Alberto Anggoy, also a resident of the said place, said the reek of what seemed to be a dead “animal” led him to the cadaver.
Police Major Joven Arevalo, Dumangas police chief, believed the body could have been dead for around five days already.
“We could not get a clear facial description because maggots have already infested his face and some parts of his body,” he said.
A tattoo was etched on his back.
Initial check revealed that the body had three stab injuries on the lower left abdomen.
It is also probable that the body was left in the area after he was killed somewhere else as there were no blood spatters or sign of struggle in the area.
A bag filled with clothes was found near the body. But no identification cards or papers were discovered that could lead to his identity.
The nearest house from where the body was found was at least 30 meters on the opposite side of the road.
Arevalo said they received no report of missing person in Dumangas recently.
Information was already sent out to neighboring towns to help identify the cadaver.
