BACOLOD City – A previous quarrel triggered a man to stab a 37-year-old man at Purok Cabangahan, Barangay Bantayan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
Police identified the victim as Jorge Alfonso, 37, of the said village.
Lieutenant Joemel Salarda, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Alfonso and his friend were invited by suspect Edgar Jalapa, 30, to a drinking session.
Already drunk, the victim’s companion decided to go home first. He had not gone far when he heard a commotion.
The friend then saw Alfonso on the ground while Jalapa ran away.
He later saw Alfonso with two stab wounds on his body. The victim was declared dead at Kabankalan City Hospital.
Salarda said Alfonso and Jalapa previously challenged each other to a fight.
But the victim defeated the suspect, which probably triggered the latter to seek revenge.
Salarda said the knife used by the suspect was not recovered from the scene.
Jalapa is still at large.
