Vice President Leni Robredo personally visited Iloilo to bring programs and various forms of assistance to communities there.
Robredo on Monday, March 15, went to the towns of Tigbauan and Sta. Barbara, where two of her office’s Community Learning Hubs (CLH) were put up to help students struggling with distance learning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
There, partners and volunteers in the hubs told VP Leni how the CLH benefitted Ilonggo students.
VP Leni, in a media interview in Sta. Barbara, emphasized the importance of having learning hubs in areas where students do not have enough access to education materials.
“Iyong Community Learning Hubs, at least mayroong once or twice a week puwede silang pumunta, mayroong tutors na trained natin na aalalay sa kanila. So ito po parang pansamantala siya pang-fill in the gap,” Robredo said.
The Vice President also visited the town of San Joaquin, where she met the residents of Brgy. Crossing Dapuyan, whose households received toilet bowls from her office, through the local government’s Zero Open Defecation program.
During their meeting, residents took the opportunity to thank VP for the assistance since having access to toilets helped them, especially those who have children at home.
Also in San Joaquin, VP Robredo met the members of Angat Kababaihan, Inc. (Akai), which is a program of the municipality that received a silver award in the OVP’s Bridging Leadership Program—an initiative that strives to support and empower local leaders.
Capping off her first day in Iloilo was VP Robredo’s visit to Oton and Cabatuan to meet the farmers assisted by her office through its Angat Buhay program.
During her visit, the farmers shared with VP Leni how her office’s livelihood grant improved their production by making mechanized farm equipment available to their group.
On her second day in Iloilo, VP Leni visited the Anilao Youth Center in Anilao town, which received assistance from the OVP, also through its Bridging Leadership Program, to provide educational materials to the youth center.
From Anilao, Robredo went to Carles town to lead the Alaskabuhayan Cooking Training and Demonstration, which her office initiated along with Alaska Milk Corporation. This project aims to teach parents how to prepare nutritional meals for children in their communities.
She also personally checked the ongoing construction of the Iloilo City COVID-19 Laboratory. In 2020, Iloilo City local government received grant from the OVP to provide equipment for the local government’s COVID-19 laboratory.
As her last stop, VP Leni went to Mandurriao, Iloilo City, to meet with the convenors of Ahon Laylayan Koalisyon. There, she listened to the projects proposed by the ALK convenors to address the issues and concerns in their respective sectors.
