BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed in separate stabbing incidents in Candoni, Negros Occidental on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Mamerto Obregoso, 46, of Barangay Caningay died after he was allegedly stabbed by Efren Escorde Jr. while they were attending a celebration of Obregoso’s relative at the said village.

Police Lieutenant Alfred Mansoy, deputy police chief of Candoni Municipal Police Station, said Obregoso and Escorde were drinking liquor when the latter attacked the victim.

Mansoy said the victim was having an altercation with another man when the suspect got irked listening to them.

“Tungod hubog na, natak-an siya mamati sa binaisay, amo to nabuno niya ang victim,” he added.

Obregoso died on the spot due to five stab wounds, while Escorde is still at large and will be facing murder charges, Mansoy said.

The following day, Nonito Salvador, 53, of Barangay Payauan, was also reportedly stabbed dead by 42-year-old Benjie Millante at the said village.

Salvador and Millante were also drinking when Salvador allegedly went berserk, Mansoy said.

Mansoy said Millante pacified Salvador but the latter allegedly chased him with a knife, prompting Millante to stab Salvador to neutralize him.

“Nag ma-oy si Salvador kay hubog na, wala siya namati kay Millante pag saway sa iya, nanglagas pa siya, amo to nabuno siya,” he added.

Salvador succumbed to a lone stab wound in the left part of his abdomen.

Mansoy said Millante surrendered to the police later that day through the help of a barangay official.
