Alum, not shabu recovered from jail facility

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— “Indi shabu, kundi tawas (It’s alum, not shabu).”

This was the statement of Jail Warden Senior Inspector Dever Fantilaga of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Roxas City Jail in Barangay San Jose on the white crystalline substance that was recovered outside the jail last March 18, 2021.

Fantilaga turned over the substance to the Roxas City Police Station and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for laboratory examination.

The examination at the PNP Crime Laboratory in Iloilo City indicated that the substance was negative for “methamphetamine” or shabu.

Fantilaga said the recovery of the substance is a challenge to his leadership as warden where he strictly imposed BJMP rules and regulations.

He clarified that the jail facility has a closed-circuit television (CCTV) but it was temporarily moved because a portion of the Female Dormitory is under rehabilitation.

The jail officer appealed to relatives of the inmates or Person’s Deprived of Liberty (PDL’s) not to bring in contraband particularly illegal drugs.

After the incident, Fantilaga said that he will strictly impose ocular inspection on the jail.
