BACOLOD City – Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental said the repair and rehabilitation of a major road network in the locality will hasten development and boost the tourism industry of the town.
Yulo led the groundbreaking of the repair and rehabilitation of the Crossing Magallon road junction Thursday.
The provincial government has allocated a total of P35 million while the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earmarked P80 million for this year and another P63 million next year.
“We have waited for two decades for this,” Yulo told reporters here
She lamented that critics even forecast that even if her hair turns white, the repair of the road will not be realized.
The mayor said that as soon as she assumed office last July 1, 2019, she immediately worked on the realization of the project by asking help from national government agencies through the office of 5th district Rep. Marilou Arroyo-Lesaca.
She also requested help from the Office of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
She said the project is a product of the collaboration between the provincial government and the concerned national government agencies.
The road network, which spans from the Crossing Magallon junction passing through the poblacion towards Barangay Guinpanaan, links Negros Occidental to the Oriental through Canlaon City.
It will spur trade between the two provinces. At the same time, it will also boost the tourism industry in the town, she said.
In an audio message played during the program, Rep. Arroyo-Lesaca said that the road network will enable efficient movement of people and goods and will boost the tourism industry.
The lawmaker was represented by Kristine Padayhag and Carissa Olaybar from her district office here.
Also joining the mayor in the activity were Municipal Engineer Glia Mabag, DPWH district representative Marjorie Dino, and Barangay Captain Jerry Percival of Crossing Magallon.
