BACOLOD City – Police are still investigating the motive behind the case of a member of Kadamay-Negros who was gunned down by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at Zone 4, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.

Slain was Jesus Pason Jr., 33, of Barangay Mambulac, a tricycle driver.

Police Lieutenant Robert Petate, officer-in-charge of Silay City Police Station, said that Pason was on his driven tricycle with a female passenger when the perpetrators shot him in the head then fled.

Petate said the wounded Pason lost control over his tricycle and slammed into a sand stockpile on the roadside. His female passenger was unharmed, the police chief added.

Pason was rushed to a hospital where he later expired. Police recovered from the scene an empty shell of .45 caliber ammunition.
Although Karapatan Negros island has confirmed that Pason was a member of Kadamay Negros, Petate said they will still have to verify such report, adding that there’s a possibility that his reported affiliation with the said group can be linked with the gun attack.

Karapatan Negros island secretary general Clarizza Singson said in a statement they are calling for a thorough investigation by the Commission of Human Rights in the continuing extrajudicial killings of community organizers.

They strongly condemned the murder of Pason, whom they also claimed to be a member of Pasil Homeowners Association, Inc.
Singson also said they are demanding the government to address the killings in Negros island.

MAN SHOOTS ELDER BROTHER OVER TV

In Calatrava town, Dominador Escarpe Jr., 34 of Barangay Lipat-on, was injured after he was allegedly shot by his younger brother after an argument over a television last Thursday.

Police Major Roberto Indiape Jr., town police chief, said the suspect identified as 32-year-old Dennis Escarpe asked the victim if he could watch television.

However, the victim reportedly did not allow him because it could jack up their electricity bill.

Indiape said the suspect then left their house and later returned drunk where he saw the victim sharpening a bolo.

Indiape said the victim allegedly tried to hack the suspect, but the latter, armed with a .38 caliber, shot his elder brother, hitting him in his right shoulder.

Indiape said the suspect then ran and surrendered to the barangay officials. He was then turned over to the police.

Indiape said the victim has no plan to pursue the filing of charges against the suspect.
