Private sector constructions in Guimaras increased by 6 percent in the 3rd quarter of 2020 mainly due to more residential projects on the island.
Citing preliminary results of construction statistics generated from the approved building permits, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office reported more constructions in the said period compared to 2019.
“The number of constructions reached at 53, higher than the 50 recorded figures during the same quarter in 2019,” Guimaras Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
The 6 percent spike in private sector construction was due to the 8.33 percent increment in residential projects which accounted for 49.06 percent of the total construction and additional construction of other type such as addition, alteration and repair construction.
The number of non-residential building constructions, however, declined by 19.23 percent, from 26 in Q3 2019 to 21 in the same quarter in 2020. Other construction type went up by 100 percent. (See Figure 1)
