A father and his son are facing murder charges for allegedly hacking to death their neighbor at Barangay Pandanon in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police Captain Eugene Tolentino, town police chief, said that suspects Igleserio Enitiban, 60, and his son Roberto Enitiban, 28, were allegedly behind the killing of 40-year-old Jim Pladero of the said village.
Tolentino said the incident happened when Pladero, who was having a drinking session with Igleserio and their relatives at the latter’s house, figured in a heated argument with Roberto, who allegedly hit his butt when he was awoken by their noise.
Pladero then allegedly threatened them and went home, while their other companions decided to leave the drinking session to help with the wedding preparations of their other relatives, Tolentino said.
While the others went out of the suspects’ house, Pladero allegedly attacked them with a bolo, but nobody was injured, as they were able to run and seek help from the suspects, the police chief added.
Roberto then allegedly went to see Pladero, and hacked him several times that caused his immediate death, Tolentino said.
Roberto then fled but later surrendered to the barangay officials, while his father was also later arrested after one of his sons told the police that he was also allegedly involved in the crime when he helped hacking the victim.
Tolentino said the father, however, denied the allegation against him. Both are detained at DSB Municipal Police Station.
